Help Getting Started with Streaming Video If you are new to Streaming video, it might be a good idea to familiarize yourself with some of the lingo and formats. There are two ways to view video on the Web 1. the video file is downloaded directly to your harddrive, to be opened later for viewing 2. the video file is streamed from a server as you watch it There are three mainstream formats used on the World Wide Web today 1. RealMedia 2. Apple's quicklime 3. Windows Media Player ScreenWeavers uses RealPlayer for its relative ease of use and popularity. We will be offering QuickTime movies very soon. All these formats have their own special software using plugins to help video files recognize what the format is ( similar to needing a word document software in order to open documents written in a word format) The plugins are available from the developers sites as well as sites offering streaming video and the download process is relatively painless. ****Remember that what you download is only the installer and once downloaded from the Net you have to double click on the RealPlayer-installer icon (usually defaulted to your desktop unless you've customized downloads elsewhere). This will install RealPlayer to your browser folder. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ HELP If you are having problems with RealPlayer, you should try one of the following options: * Make sure you have correctly downloaded and installed the software. If you have not downloaded and installed the software, go to the Real.com site * Browse through the Yahoo! Broadcast FAQs Pages. * E-mail Yahoo! Broadcast with a detailed description of your problem. * Useful Links: http://help.yahoo.com/help/bcst/ |
